DHA is an acronym for Dihydroxyacetone. DHA is the active ingredient found in all sunless tanning products. It is a simple carbohydrate that is primarily used as an ingredient in sunless tanning products. It is often derived from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane, and by the fermentation of glycerin. DHA does not make the skin cells darker in pigmentation, but rather reacts with the proteins and amino acids found in the top layer of your skin to create a darkening effect.
It is important to follow these steps in order to ensure that you receive the best tan possible:
Do not shower before your session. If you do the tan will not be as dark. Please exfoliate and shave 24 hours before your appointment NOT the day of.
It is important to do this the day before to remove all dead skin cells so we are not tanning over dead skin. Your tan will last longer and look more even if you exfoliate properly.
Make sure before your appointment that you have removed all make-up, deodorant, perfume, and lotions! This will cause a green residue on your skin. When you have products on your skin prior to your session it creates an invisible film where the solution will not penetrate. So make sure you have NO products on your skin the day of your appointment.
Nails and lash extensions must be done at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. Waxing needs to be done 1-2 days before.
Please show up wearing dark loose-fit clothing with sandals. Anything tight can take away from your tan or leave lines. During your session you are allowed to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. If you decide to wear a swimsuit, bra, or underwear please make sure they are dark. Our solution will wash out of MOST fabrics but better to be safe than sorry! NO yoga pants, skinny jeans, leggings, socks etc.
Note: Men must wear swim trunks, underwear, or shorts.
After your spray tan you are going to see immediate color. This is not your spray tan it is only bronzer. The bronzer needs to stay on the skin for a certain amount of time before rinsing it off. Your spray tan will be developed in 12-24 hours after your appointment.
If you choose the regular (8 hour solution) you need to leave the bronzer on your skin for 8-10 hours before rinsing it off. After 12 hours from your appointment time you can take an actual shower.
If you choose the glow on the go (rapid solution) you will need to rinse 1-4 hours after your appointment time. A technician will give you an exact time and instructions after your appointment. After your rinse it may appear like your tan is completely gone, but remember all spray tans take 12-24 hours to completely develop. The rapid option just gives you the convivence to rinse sooner than 8-10 hours. You can shower the day after your appointment.
Your rinse and shower are NOT the same! Your rinse is a water rinse only! You cannot wash your hair or body. When rinsing the bronzer off your skin make sure the water is cool/lukewarm. If the water is too hot it can affect the darkness of your spray tan. You will need to rinse until the water runs clear. If you see streaks/blotchiness after your rinse you need to get back in and rinse again. Always pat dry with a towel after you shower while you have your spray tan.
Before your session your technician will consult you to ensure we find the right shade of brown for you. The session should take less than 10 minutes. After your session you will see immediate color. This is just the bronzer. DHA stops developing after 24 hours and is what is creates that long lasting brown color. Your spray tan can last 5-10 days depending on how well it’s taken care of. Instructions will be given to you after your session is complete.
After your appointment we recommend you go home and relax. Do not book your spray tan if you have errands to run afterwards or plans that day. You won't be able to wear tight clothes or use any products on your skin until 12 hours AFTER your appointment.
You do not want to sweat or get wet until you've rinsed the cosmetic bronzer off your skin. Your first initial rinse should only be a rise. Rinse in lukewarm to cool water until the water runs clear. Do not shave, exfoliate, shampoo, or use any body wash or soaps. This will strip the DHA and create streaks and will ruin your tan. After you rinse make sure you pat dry with your towel never rub. Review our rinse/shower tab for more tips!
In order to maintain your tan, make sure you are moisturizing 2-3 times a day and stay well hydrated. We also sell products in store that can help you prolong the life of your tan!
Avoid sweating, pools, and saunas!
You do not want to use any baby oil or lotions high in mineral oil. Stay away from products containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids and Alcohols. PH balanced body washes are best for airbrush tans. Do not use Dove, Oil of Olay, or any fragranced soaps. Keep in mind your airbrush tan will not protect you from UVA and UVB rays. Choose an oil free and water-resistant sunscreen.
Avoid using retinol, retin-a, benzoyl peroxide, make up remover, exfoliating products, bug spray, adhesive tape, bandaids, and tanning oil.
We recommend avoiding these situations for at least 48 hours. Chlorinated pools and salt water beaches can increase the rate in which the skin exfoliates causing the tan to fade rapidly.
We recommend doing a trial run 2-3 weeks before your event. This way we can find the right solution to achieve the perfect level of darkness for you. When you book your session make sure to book 2-3 days before event.
We recommend consulting a doctor before scheduling appointment. Our solution is non-toxic and is the safest way to achieve a natural tan.
